Timimoun is a town in the state of Adrar in Algeria. Located between the Grand Erg Occidental in
the north and the tray of Tademaït
in the south, it is
the main oasis in Gourara region.
The
city built
on top of the palm it is known
for the ocher color of its
buildings. Its architecture - Arab
Sudanese - typical
of the region - has inspired
Sahelian cities like
Timbuktu and Djenne. The main elements used in the construction

Relief:
Timimoun is surrounded by a series of oases bordering
the Grand Erg Occidental. These oases are grouped into sub-regions: it is Tinerkouk,
Swani, Tagouzi, Aougrout,
Deldoul
The
landscape is the same as the other oases of Gourara: a village that
overlooks the park and opening on
the sedimentary basin of the Sebkha,
offering a magnificent view over the southern
part of the Grand Erg Occidental.
Hydrography:
In Gourara, water comes from underground structures. foggaras unitarily up
to several tens of kilometers.
This ancient technique existed
in present-day Iran to the eleventh century, and where such works are called Qanat.
Climate:
Timimoun has a hot
desert climate (Köppen climate classification BWh), with extremely hot
summers and mild winters, and very little precipitation throughout the year.
Transport network:
Timimoun is served by an airport located 4 km southeast of the city.
